Keep Kindergarten & Child Care Together
Victorian Premier John Brumby announced on Thursday 2nd of August that the Office for Children would be brought into the Department of Education, creating the new Department of Education & Early Childhood Development. In the Victorian Cabinet reshuffle Brownyn Pike was named Education Minister, while Maxine Morand has been appointed Minister for Children & Early Childhood Development.
Community Child Care is pleased that kindergarten and child care, along with a range of other early childhood services, have remained together. Since this announcement Community Child Care has been working alongside key stakeholders and the new Department of Education & Early Childhood Development to ensure that there is a smooth transition and that early childhood is firmly placed on the agenda of the new Department.
KEEP KINDERGARTEN & CHILD CARE TOGETHER - 2006 State Election
In the lead up to the 2006 Victorian State Election a diverse group of leaders in children's services came together to fight against the fragmentation of early childhood services. Community Child Care (CCC) was pleased to announce this historic coming together of organisations.
This was the first time that Community Child Care, FKA Children's Services, Early Childhood Australia (Victorian Branch), the Centre for Community Child Health and Lady Gowrie Child Centre (Melbourne) have come together in a public statement responding to the call by some lobbyists for the administration of state government funding for kindergartens to move into the Education Department. These organisations believe that all early years services should be administered by the same department.
