Question: My director has asked me to take over the staff meetings. As a new educational leader, I’ve never done this before and I'm feeling stressed out. Any advice?

Answer:
Share your concerns with your director and ask if you can run part of the staff meeting initially until you build your confidence and skills as a leader.

Placing an expectation on ourselves to know everything straight away and get it perfect the first time creates a lot of unnecessary stress. Break the task down into manageable steps and get support and guidance throughout the process. You don’t need to carry the burden alone – it’s OK to ask for help.

Ensure you’re working within the boundaries of your role and skill level. It’s easy to get carried away looking at all the possibilities – keep your eye on the smaller tasks first and before long you’ll be running a whole meeting without breaking a sweat.
